Pencil Drawings
Hundreds of pencil drawings are combined in flip-book style animation sequences
to create Neil and Iona's facial expressions. Each 3 x 4 inch cell is drawn on mylar.
Oddly enough, these drawings were the impetus for creating The Smile Project.
They started as a series of primative mouth shape drawings,
after hearing it mentioned that our earliest memory of love was seeing our mother's smile.
In a funny way, the sculptures serve as an elaborate frame for these drawings.

Movement Stills
Stills of Neil and Iona moving demonstrate how the artwork changes
with their body language.

Installation
These maquettes were created to better visualize how the
installation would function spacially.
This was before I had created an actual robotic sculpture,
or the three-dimensional models displayed on the Neil and Iona page.
